In conjunction with l’Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-St-jean, under Jacques Clément’s direction, an exceptional program comprising five short movies is offered to both music lovers and movies enthusiasts, young and not so young. The event, meant to be enjoyed alone, among friends or with the family offers revisited classic cinema as well as an original work, Le grand cercle, which was scripted and shot by Ken Allaire for the occasion.

The 37 musicians on stage interpret the musical soundtracks of the movies on the program. The music of well-known composers and newcomers enlivens the images and becomes the pretext for a live performance in front of a public made of the Orchestre’s regulars and festival-goers. A symphony for the eyes!

LE GRAND CERCLE
Le grand cercle is a project which joins Ken Allaire’s movie with the classical music piece «La Création du monde» by Darius Milhaud (1892-1974). Cineaste from the region, the director has thus contacted the ilnu community in Masteuiatsh during his researches on the beliefs and customs of native populations.

In the tradition of the first nations, everything goes by cycles, the circle representing the sacred symbol of continuity.

KEN ALLAIRE
Ken Allaire lives in Jonquière and holds an interdisciplinary arts bachelor’s degree from UQAC. In 2006, he directed «This year for Christmas» within the framework of his studies’ final project. Shown at the Québec city, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Abitibi-Témiscaminque, Montréal and Saguenay festivals, his film was awarded the mention officielle des Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois. He was part of the team on the «Méchant contraste» program in Saguenay.

L'ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE DU SAGUENAY—LAC-SAINT-JEAN
Founded in 1979, l'Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean regroups many interactive sections under a same artistic and administrative direction: the symphonic ensemble and chamber orchestra, the Alcan Quartet, a wind instruments quintet, a youth orchestra and a symphonic choir. More than 50 activities are presented annually within and out of the region as well as many radio performances. The institution actively participates in its community development as one of the main engines of professional artistic activity.
