Casting & Scouting
The art of juggling : the topic of this workshop! The host discusses recent casting and scouting experiences of Québec professionals with them. The guests explore the puzzle that preproduction always is: casting and shooting locations. Who are these people responsible of choosing and joining all the essential elements together to tell the story thought up by the director? How do they make it happen? Dealing with accessibility, budgets, permissions and particularly availability. This is the opportunity of discovering these important professions and to share with you the experience of our guests for the benefit of your future projects.
Frédéric Corbet
Host
Frédéric Corbet is the host of Premières vues aired on VOX, the only show entirely dedicated to short film and Québec cinema. A graduate in communications and journalism from the University of Montréal, Frédéric has been working in the media world for several years. His curiosity and passion for culture and his versatility brought him to work on different projects including: Bons baisers de France (Radio-Canada) and Tout l’monde debout (Rock Détente).
Luc Picard
Actor, screenwriter and director
A native of Lachine in the province of Québec, he studies at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal and then acts in several plays under the direction of, amongst but not only, Claude Poissant, Pierre Bernard, René Richard Cyr and Brigitte Haentjens. A prolific actor, as much on TV and big screen than at the theatre, he won numerous interpretation awards. He gets his start as director and screenwriter with his movie L’audition, a major Quebec box office success. He shots his second movie, Babine, in 2008, an adaptation of the tale from Fred Pellerin. He will work with him again in 2012, on the fantasy film Ésimésac.
Catherine Didelot
Head of casting
She leaves France to move to Québec, after studying law, dance and arts in Paris. At that time, she works as 3rd and 2nd assistant director on several productions alongside Claude Jutra, Pierre Falardeau and Claude Meunier. In 1990, she opens the casting branch of the production company: Les Films de la Pleine Lune inc. She goes from feature films to TV series to advertising projects since then. She participated in several projects with Gilles Carle, Fernand Dansereau, Michel Brault and more recently with Ricardo Trogi, Julie Hivon and Luc Picard.
Cyril Loreau
Location manager
Working in the cinema and TV industry for over 12 years, Cyril Loreau began his career as director Paul Newman’s personal assistant. Benefiting from this experience, Cyril Loreau becomes assistant location manager on Québec productions such as Lance et compte and Fortier and then on American productions shot in Québec like Snow in August and The Jacket before being invited to work on the American series Survivor. He currently works with the team of the Québec Film and Television Council (QFTC) as location manager and project coordinator of the control room department.
Alexis Fortier Gauthier
Director
Québec city born, Alexis Fortier has written and directed many shorts at UQAM in Montreal as a student. In 2005 he co-directed Sur le Quai de la Gare, a documentary filmed in Viêt Nam. He directed Après tout, a fiction short acclaimed and rewarded at the Genies award in 2008 for best short drama.
