Competition

Resulting from more than 200 hours of viewing, the Competition part proposes a revealing overview of the short film universe. Chosen for the competition are films submitted to the festival and others which were spotted by our flying squad during various events such as the Brussels Short Film Festival, Shorts Encounters Bristol, FICFA, and the Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival. In total, 66 shorts from 24 countries, which can be seen in nine different programs, among which three thematic ones.

By drawing our attention with works that stand out or clash, directors from everywhere renew styles and re-invent manners by giving them touches of color and textures peculiar to their various cultures and experiences. Their boldness and creativity, serving their talent and tenacity, allow for a manifestation which is thoroughly coloured and animated by its diversity.

A varied program, which surprises and raises questions, where drama meets comedy and documentaries mix with fiction, permits to renew acquaintance with realities that are always topical but sometimes disturbing. It offers atypical documentaries and long shorts of more than 20 minutes, unclassifiable but still a must. « Tourner à tout prix! » still attentively keeps an eye on the new Québec directors who have produced their films without any financial help. As an addition, there will be a regional summer tour which will permit to reach a large number of people by showing them the laureates from the 2011 edition.
