Unsettling cinema?

The unsettling cinema tackles hidden truths head on. By raising disturbing questions, it surprises and destabilizes the viewer. Does the uneasiness come from the cinematographic approach, from the unusual viewpoint of the cineaste or from the taboo subjects which he dares casting light on? Does it lead to the viewer’s pleasure or his suffering?

A workshop on out-of-norms cinema. The type that disturbs and unsettle, very often without one knowing exactly why. Guests who have rubbed elbow with this style will animate the discussion.

Discussion leader

Pierre Demers has taught cinema for forty years at Cégep de Jonquière. He is also a poet, journalist, polemist and cineaste. He has directed a few short films, among which: Le facteur cultivé (2009) and Trous de mémoire (2010).

Panellists

For the last 20 years, Ève Lamont has stood apart by giving a voice to those who have no right of speech in society, such as the unemployed who refuse jobs, homeless who squat a building, farmers who give up ‘’productivism’’ and prostitutes who leave the sex industry.

Born in Bulgaria , Théodore Ushev settled in Montréal in 1999. He soon acquired a reputation as a gifted and prolific animation cineaste with films such as Vertical, L’homme qui attendait and Tzartitza. He operates the mortadellatv.com website and has directed, at the ONF, the micro-film Sou, designed for cellular phones.

Guy Édoin directed Les Affluents, a short films trilogy: Le Pont, Les Eaux-Mortes and La Battue. These films were shown in many international festivals and were nominated a few times for the Jutra and Génie awards. He is presently completing his first feature film: Marécages.
